The 72-year-old disappeared from Inverell hospital just after 6pm on Wednesday, prompting a ground and air search involving police, the SES, VRA, Polair, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, other helicopter organisations, family and community members.
The search was suspended at dusk on Thursday, but police patrols continued during the night.
A search resumed in the wider Inverell area and towards Ashford at 8am yesterday.
The man’s body was discovered by searchers near a dam in Inverell.
Police have identified the missing man and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.
