Moore dominated Australian racing in the 1960s and '70s and had a series of well-known battles with another star of racing Roy Higgins. Racing purists around the world regarded Moore as one of Australia's most-revered jockeys.
Moore and trainer Tommy Smith largely dominated racing in Sydney during his reign and he was regarded as the toughest competitor by fellow jockeys.
Moore, who racked up endless premierships in Sydney, also had his son Gary join him to continue the family stranglehold on racing in the harbour city.
He went to unheard of lengths, including hiring a cinematographer in the late 60s, to film every race that was run in the Sydney area. Moore would spend countless hours going through the films, frame by frame, determining the strengths of his opposition before a day of racing.
He was the most equipped on form of any person in the state when his riding career ended.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame were: Glenn Boss; Brian Mayfield Smith, the man who toppled the legendary Tommy Smith for a Sydney premiership; Harry Telford, the trainer of arguably Australia's greatest racehorse, Phar Lap; and Australia's finest-ever racing writer Bert Lillye. Lillye covered Australia's biggest racing carnivals each year and earned a reputation as not only a news journalist but for his feature stories, which were sent around the world. He is still considered the most influential racing reporter Australia has ever seen.
Champion racehorses inducted were: Danehill, Choisir, Briseis and Dalray.
