The first commercial passenger aircraft out of Tamworth was delayed by more than three hours, leaving at 9.55am, not the scheduled 6.30am and the 8.30am flight left for Sydney at 11.44am.
From Sydney, it was a similar story with the scheduled 6.55am QantasLink flight still on the ground at 10am, finally taking off at 10.32am.
This meant the NSW Governor, General David Hurley and other guests visiting for the CWA conference were delayed in their official duties throughout the day.
As the morning wore on, the situation eased, with the 10.10am flight out of Tamworth delayed by two hours, but the 1.45pm flight was delayed by only 30 minutes.
The 3.25pm flight was delayed by an hour and the last flight to Sydney was on time at 4.45pm.
The JetGo flight to Tamworth arrived at 10.36am, more than three hours after the 7.30am arrival time, and it left for Brisbane at 11.56am, more than three-and-a-half hours after its scheduled departure time of 8.30am.
Delays were not as severe in Armidale, with the 6.30am flight departing at 6.55am and the 9.55am flight leaving the New England at 10.16am, but the 12.20pm flight was cancelled.
From Sydney to Armidale, the 8.20am QantasLink flight was delayed by nearly 30 minutes, departing at 8.48am, and the 10.45am flight was cancelled.
Regional Express Airlines flights between Sydney and Armidale were not affected.
QantasLink flights from Moree were not affected by fog, with a delay of less than 10 minutes for the 9.35am flight, but the 7.25am flight from Sydney to the North West town was delayed by 28 minutes, departing Sydney at 7.53am.
