The $2400 race will be the feature of a 10-race program that also includes the finals of the John Jordan Memorial and Sauer’s Glass Maiden.
Falzoni was the fastest of the heat winners last Saturday, clocking 26.02secs to win the opening heat.
“He went super,” Mabbott said about the black dog.
“He came out good, jumped to the front and never looked back.”
She was admittedly surprised by how quick he went.
She wasn’t expecting him to go that well.
“He had a bit of a fall here a few months back,” she said.
“This is his third start back.
“Last week (April 18) was his first start over the distance (457m) and he won.”
Falzoni was, and is, Mabbott’s only Cup chance.
“It’ll be good to win it for my dad,” she said.
“My dad (Dick Edmonds) used to train dogs and won the Tamworth Cup.”
It would be doubly sweet for Mabbott, with she and husband Anthony franchisees of the local Mikeloren Patisserie.
Aberdeen’s John Lawson will have the strongest presence in the final with three starters.
