A player with a wrecking ball style, he and his teammates carved up Oxley Diggers at Jack Woolaston on Saturday, winning 112-10.
But he had a word of warning for opposing teams.
Not so much that West is a developing side which will take some beating but mainly a warning about the return of Matt Nean.
“Matty. He’s even better than he was two years ago,” Vidler said after Saturday’s shellacking.
“He’s improved from when I last played with him.
“He’s put on a a few kilos too and I think he’s better for it.
“He’s also matured a lot.
“He’s become one of our leaders.
“His talk was excellent today and got us going forward.”
Nean also crossed for three tries in a game where the Lions crossed for 19 tries.
Dylan Lake also scored four tries and Sam Taylor scored three four-pointers as well as kicking 13 conversions for a 38-point haul.
Vidler is delighted to be back at the Lions after a season coaching Manilla Tigers.
“Yeah, it’s good to be back,” Vidler said.
“We’re two from two.
“We had a good hit-out at Narrabri.
“That was our first full game of the season so it was also good to get a win out there too.”
Saturday was good even if it was like a training run with “a bit of defence thrown in”.
“We had worked on a few things last night,” Vidler said on Saturday.
“It’s good to put them into play. Good to get the defence right too.
“We know we’ve got the attack, we’ve just got to get the defence right.”
It was also a good day for Vidler.
He polled the two points in the NDL B&F to sit in equal second on the table with Narrabri’s Dillon Walford and Jacob Booby and Oxley Digger second grade coach Damien Allan.
Nean and Lachlan Cameron, who polled the three points in Narrabri’s amazing comeback win at Gunnedah, share the B&F lead with first-round leaders Shane Wadwell and Tom Hine.
