That was a stunning rise from last year’s eight in a competition that not that long ago was formed with a seven-a-side competition.
Now it has reached a dozen and, with the likes of teenager Tyler Endemi joining the Newcastle Jets development squad, adding more lustre to the blossoming competition.
Northern Inland Football’s operation officer Matthew Alcorn said having 12 teams entered was an enormously good position for the code.
“It’s fantastic to see the growth in women’s football which is a credit to clubs and coaches,” Alcorn said.
TDF president Barry Paff said the 2015 TWFL would include three teams from Kootingal, two from Oxley Vale Attunga, two from defending first grade title holders Tamworth FC, two from North Companions and one apiece from Hillvue Rovers, Manilla and Quirindi.
“Manilla and Quirindi will be participating in the women’s competition for the first time,” Paff said.
The first round included a number of intra-club games, with OVA Vixens playing OVA Mushies Women, Tamworth Sky against Tamworth Orange, North Companions Servies matched with North Companions FC and Kootingal White tackling Kootingal Purple. Other fixtures included Quirindi v Hillvue Rovers and Manilla v Kootingal Pink.
