Frank James Allan is facing three charges after allegedly threatening the paramedics who were called to a job on Hillvue Rd on January 27.
Police allege Allan became aggressive towards the officers when the woman was placed in an ambulance just before 1am to carry out observations.
According to police, he then demanded paramedics to remove the woman, yelled abuse, then threatened to kill them if they didn’t comply.
Paramedics attempted to calm the man down but failed and the torrent of abuse allegedly continued.
The officers told police, who were called for back-up, they were forced to lock themselves in the ambulance and called for urgent assistance.
Allan, who has been in custody since his arrest in early February, lodged a fresh application for bail in Tamworth Local Court this week to live in Sydney.
Solicitor Joanne Patten said her client, who appeared via video link from prison, could report to Sydney police as often as needed, would abide by a curfew and would not contact any witnesses.
Ms Patten said her client still needed medical assistance after he had 30 stitches following a stabbing.
But police prosecutor Rob Baillie opposed bail, arguing Allan could commit further offences and he had failed to attend a district court for a matter. He said because the alleged victims were ambulance officers, the protection and welfare of the community was needed.
“There is no guarantee on the next appearance, no matter what conditions are imposed,” he said.
Allan is charged with obstructing an ambulance officer by an act of violence, common assault and intimidation, but has not entered any pleas. He also faced other charges for which he was convicted for in his absence.
Magistrate Michael Holmes said Allan had weak ties to the community and a “lengthy history of violence”.
“The strength of the case appears to be strong,” he said. “I do not believe the conditions would necessarily limit the unacceptable risk.”
Allan was refused bail to reappear in court later this month.
