National Servicemen’s Association Oxley Sub-branch secretary Don Smith said all who attended enjoyed the afternoon, with about 80 people in attendance.
Special guests and wreath layers included Jim Jordan, the president of the Nashos Oxley Sub-branch, Vietnam War veteran Dave Fanker, Tamworth Regional Council mayor Col Murray, and representatives of ex-service organisations and those in active service.
A number of relatives of national servicemen travelled from the Hunter Valley and NSW North Coast, as well as from around the region, for the event.
Reverend Bill Fischer gave the address, which Mr Smith said was beautiful and fitting for the day.
Tamworth’s 209 Army Cadet Unit formed the catafalque party for the service.
The commemoration concluded with dinner and fellowship for about 40 people at South Tamworth Bowling Club.
At the club, the Nashos presented member Bill Brown with his OBE (Over Bloody Eighty) award.
