Competition was fierce as representatives of 10 branches within the Wanthella group of CWA showed off their best handiwork, homework and baking skills for judging, hoping to get through to state level with their creations.
Group spokeswoman Doreen Goddard said it was a long day for many members, as they had an 8 o’clock start and some had to travel from Yarrowitch, Nowendoc, Niangala (and Winton) to get there on time for the day-long process.
The “B” theme of butterflies, beetroot and boronias were the subjects of studies throughout the year, with lots of interesting facts unearthed. She said there were plenty of takers for a sample of antioxidant-rich beetroot juice, too – even beetroot yoghurt.
There are 15 to 20 sections in The Land Cookery competition and finalists from 30 branches across the state will vie for the title of best in the business at the state conference in Tamworth in May.
