The home state had entered the second day of matches in the Over 60 and 70 age divisions ahead 4-1 and with Queensland needing to win all five games to lift the Cooper Finlay State Of Origin Cup.
However the Queenslanders could win just two of the final five games, losing the State Of Origin 7-3.
Quirindi’s Terry Cohen played major role in the NSW Country 2s win over Queensland City 2’s at Lambert Park.
Cohen, who skipped the NSW Country 2s, made an unbeaten 41 as his side reached 204.
Opening bats Tony Corcoran (40no) and Alec Roulis (16) gave the good start while Mick Morgan (40no) also waded in late with Cohen to post a good score.
Nev Taylor (2-17) and David Gloede (2-16) were best of the Queenslanders in their eight over stints.
In reply Queensland City 2s were bowled out for 180 with Lindsay Holmes (40), John Gardner (27) and Jeff Evans (22) top scoring.
Cohen claimed 3-22 from his seven overs while Quirindi’s John Southam (2-36), Mick Morgan (2-22), Tamworth pair David Head (1-24) and Tom Kellett (1-25) also had success.
o At the TAS Backfield Queensland Over 70s made 3-139 in reply to NSW’s 5-137.
Ross Towner (37no) and Greg Humphries (31no) top scored for Queensland while Rob Montcalm (1/21) was best of the NSW bowlers.
o At Harris Park Queensland City 1s beat their NSW Country 1s opponents by nine wickets.
NSW Country made 6-156 with Quirindi’s Rick Sampson scoring an unbeaten 40, Garry Clark (36no) and John O’Shaughnessy (45no) also unbeaten.
Roger Boyd claimed 2-15 for his Queensland side while his side finished 1-157 after good knocks from Eric Street (40no), John Stackpool (34no).
Tamworth’s Terry Murphy (1/12) was best of the NSW Country bowlers.
o At Rologas NSW City 1s had a four wicket win over Queensland Country 1.
The host state scored 6-213 with Simon Lyon (40no), Doug Trigg (41no) and Nev Castle (39) top scoring against an attack best served by Kerry Emery (2/50), Brian Walters (2/26) and Phil Drescher (1/18). Queensland Country had made 212 with Phil Dreschler (44), Ken Anderson (45no) and Nick Taylor (28) the best. Simon Lyon capped a great day by claiming 5-47 off his eight overs with Steve Kavanagh (1/37), and Chad Viner (2/19) also successful.
o At Armidale Sportsground NSW City 2 had a nine run win over Queensland Country 2, scoring 8/165 and restricting Queensland Country 2 to 9/156.
David Relf produced the performance of the State Of Origin making an unbeaten 50 for NSW City 2s and then taking 4-22 off his seven overs.
Bob Bryan (40no) and Bill Schaeffer (20) also scored good runs for the NSW City 2s with Len Shield (4/16 off 8) and Dave Pateman (1/27), snaring wickets for Queensland.
Ian Monaghan (45no), Neville Gooch (33) and Bob Kratsman (25no) top scored for Qld with Rod Watling (2-20) also giving great support to Relf.
