Senior Constable David Rixon VA, a Tamworth highway patrol officer, was gunned down in Lorraine St in West Tamworth, when a regulation traffic stop went horribly wrong on the morning of March 2, 2012.
The husband and father-of-six was remembered at a quiet but sombre ceremony out the front of the Tamworth Police Station, near the permanent memorial which was erected in his honour last year.
Several of Senior Constable Rixon’s family, friends and colleagues attended the service yesterday morning where the station’s flag was lowered, before
the police ode and prayers were read out.
A minute’s silence was marked to remember the ultimate sacrifice Senior Constable Rixon made to the Tamworth community.
“Three years has passed since David left us so suddenly, however the memories are still very strong for many of us,” a police statement said.
“We will continue to remember the integrity, dedication and extreme courage David displayed, and our thoughts are with David’s family, especially (yesterday).”
Senior Constable Rixon was 40.
