Risk in the age of prolonged adolsecence

The theory is that adolescent humans, like other species, are hard-wired to take risks. "The period likely evolved this way," explains the eminent American adolescent psychologist Laurence Steinberg, "so that juvenile animals would do what is necessary to search for mates and become independent after puberty, both of which are risky."
