The talented teenage all- rounder spearheads the bowling attack for his Armidale SportsPower team in tonight’s New England Mutual Big Bash T20 match against ADDA Constructions at New England Armidale Sportsground and then returns to the sportsground tomorrow hoping to add more wickets to his tally for Hillgrove Colts in their Armidale first grade clash with Armidale City.
Elks is a key man in both sides, said Brad King, who captains both the Sportspower T20 team and Hillgrove.
“He’s been bowling beautifully without luck,” King said.
“He’s been beating the bat a lot but getting nothing for it.
“Last Saturday he took one of the three wickets for us against Armidale City while Max Laurie, who wasn’t bowling as well, picked up a couple at the other end.”
Hillgrove made 208 and have City 3-10 in reply.
“They’ve got to get 200 with seven wickets left,” King said.
“Hopefully we can apply a bit of pressure and get a win.”
Easts, who have already earned first innings points against Ex-Services, lead the way with 36 from City (30), Hillgrove (27) and Ex-Services (19).
King’s hopes in the T20 rely on winning tonight.
It’s a case of the “quick and the dead” he said of a T20 competition where there are just three games.
“We lost by 20 runs last week,” he said.
“We weren’t far off the mark.
“We played the second game and, with the heavy dew, it made it tough.
“It could have been the roll of the ball.
“It’s a shame there aren’t two rounds (of T20) so everyone can get the feel of it but it is what it is.
“Hopefully we can win our next two games and make the final.”
He has a strong batting side, with the likes of Kyle Taylor, Josh Croft, Mitch Moore, Scott Brennan and Paul Woodford.
“Josh and Paul missed out last week but Kyle and Mitch batted well,” he said.
“Lochie (Elks) can also bat and he’s going to be a key man with the ball with Jason Boland and Justin McKay too. We’ve also got couple of spinners.”
Tonight’s New England Mutual Big Bash kicks off at 5.15pm with Moxons Bakery and Armidale Ex-Services matching up followed by the Sportspower and ADDA Constructions game from 7.30pm.
