EASTS and Armidale City could replay their washed out Armidale One Day Final in a few weeks time after rain forced the early end of yesterday’s final at New England Mutual Armidale Sportsground.
That’s one option to be investigated, said Armidale City skipper Steve Butler who would much rather replay the game than be declared joint premiers.
Easts skipper Sam Uphill is happy with any choice after his side was sent in to bat and made 6-93 after 22.2 overs when the rain came.
It stayed for around 40 minutes and while the teams tried to get back on it was eventually abandoned.
“We couldn’t get back on, there was one wet patch right on a good length,” Uphill told The Leader.
“It was disappointing but we might be able to re-play it or be declared joint One Day premiers. I’m not sure what they will do.”
He’s happy to go either way while Armidale City skipper Steve Butler would love to replay.
“I think there might be a chance to replay it in a couple of Sundays.
“I’d rather get a result than be declared joint premiers.”
He had won the toss and put Easts in earlier in the day.
“The wicket didn’t look too bad with the rain we’ve had up here,” he said.
“We had them 6-93 in the 23rd over. Adam Sweeney had 4-39 from 11 overs. He’d bowled them straight while Karl (Triebe) had bowled five overs.
“I had to take him off for a while because it got too dark and bowl a few overs myself.”
Triebe finished with 2-26 after returning for 1.2 overs when the rain hit.
Easts allrounder Todd Francis top scored for the competition leaders with 35.
Francis faced 53 balls and hit three boundaries and with Ben Hanlan (14) put on 36 for the fourth wicket after Easts were 3-20.
While the One Day Final was washed out Uphill is looking forward to returning to the field in Saturday’s two-day game against Ex-Services at Harris Park.
His side lead the first grade competition with Ex-Services in fourth and in desperate need of a win to keep their finals playoffs alive.
Armidale City and Hillgrove match up in the other two-day game at Armidale Sportsground.
