Jarrod Michael Miller’s life was cut tragically short on January 3 when he was riding his motorbike through the Spring Ridge State Forest with a friend.
The 19-year-old suffered severe injuries and could not be saved despite desperate attempts by emergency services on the ground.
Robin Miller said her grandson lived life to the fullest and was the type of young man who would do anything for anyone.
“He was a peacemaker between his mates and very loyal,” she said in an emotional interview with The Leader.
“Nothing fazed him ... he loved life.”
Jarrod was employed at the Caroona Feedlot and would have clocked up a year on the job this week, tagging and checking new cattle that were trucked in.
He grew up on the Liverpool Plains, attending primary schools in Willow Tree and Werris Creek before graduating to high school in Quirindi and Tamworth then finishing his schooling at TAFE.
“He was a little devil,” Mrs Miller joked.
“... He had a wicked sense of humour and could give as good as he got.”
It wasn’t only motorbike riding that Jarrod loved, as he also played rugby in Quirindi and Scone – but it was life on the land that he enjoyed, choosing to live on a property at Caroona.
Mrs Miller said since they received the devastating news, the past week had been incredibly difficult but had been made easier with the immense support from family, friends and the community, as well as her comrades in the VRA and RFS.
“We were very close. I loved him dearly,” she said.
“The whole family will miss him dearly and we would like to say our personal thanks for everything that so many people have done for us. We have received so much support.”
The family will privately farewell their beloved Jarrod on Tuesday before a public memorial to be held at St Alban’s Anglican Church in Quirindi from 1.30pm on that day.
Jarrod Michael Miller would have been 20 on January 20.
