BGPWC manager Ray Griffin is thrilled the Tamworth plumber is joining the team.
“Despite his relatively short career he will bring a wealth of experience with him which will serve us well in racing throughout the region and across the state,” Griffin said.
“Carrington has been a key member of the Newcastle-based Paradice National Road Series (NRS) team for the past two years and has also spent two seasons racing in Belgium and France.
“In 2014, after wearing it for two days, he was narrowly beaten into the green sprinter’s jersey in the last stage of the five-day Tour of Tahiti and he also knocked on the door of several top 10 stage finishes in National Road Series races against professional and semi-professional cyclists across Australia.
“Also in 2014 Carrington won the 110 kilometre NSW State Open Gunnedah to Tamworth A grade race with a brilliant sprint from a strong breakaway group and a few weeks later placed third in the NSW Criterium Championship in Sydney.
“In the northern NSW region he has twice won the 100 kilometre Nemingha to Nundle and return race while also winning a number of other annual races across the region. Locally he is a prolific winner of club races with Tamworth Cycle Club.
“His key strengths are his sprint and his ability to initiate breaks and also get across gaps to breakaways. But one of his great cycling qualities is his ability to ‘read’ a race – it’s not a common racing skill but Mitch seems to know how a race is going to unfold and make good decisions around that.”
The 25-year-old is employed by former Australian champion cyclist, John Clissold of J & N Plumbing and is looking forward to joining Baiocchi Griffin Private Wealth Cycling.
“I’m really keen to get going with the team. I know all the guys well and I’ve spent a lot of hours training alongside them over the years,” Carrington said.
“It’ll be great to be part of a local team and hopefully I can help with building on the team’s success to date.”
Mitch Carrington will be presented with his team jersey at the office of Baiocchi Griffin Private Wealth this morning.
