TAMWORTH and Penrith continued their winning ways as the Walter Taylor Shield completed a second day of the annual Under 15 Carnival in Armidale yesterday.

Penrith beat Hunter Valley by five wickets in their match at Harris Park while Tamworth had an even easier eight wicket win over Northern Districts at Rologas. West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook grabbed a six wicket win over Armidale at Lambert Park and Lismore completed its two-day split match with a 94 run win over Hunter Valley at Harris park.
Lismore had made 6-200 against Hunter Valley on Monday and returned there to dismiss Hunter Valley for 106 yesterday.
Lismore manager Jamie Walters was delighted.
“We bowled very well,” Walters told The Leader.
“Sam Osborne (2-18), Sam Walters (2-12) and Cameron Bryant (2-5) bowled well but special mention to Ryan Lee. He opened the bowling and bowled eight overs, seven of them maidens to finish with 0-3. His first seven overs straight were maidens. That’s a fine effort.”
It gave the side some confidence going into today’s match against unbeaten Penrith.
“It will be a real good test for the boys,” he said.
Penrith had a five wicket win over Hunter Valley in their 25 over-a-side game.
Mitchell Eckford (28, Josh Minney (13) and Dylan Martin (14) all batted well for Penrith while Campbell Schmierer (2-160 was best with the ball for Hunter valley who had made 85.
Shannon Threlfo (15), Jake Duffin (15) and Max Hampton (12) were best of the batsmen, said HV coach Dave Hudson.
“We had them six down so it got pretty close,” he said.
Earlier in the day Ben Crackett (24) and Shannon Threlfo had top scored in the loss to Lismore.
His side plays Tamworth today.
Yesterday the Tamworth side dismissed Northern Districts for 130 with James McGowan (3-16), Jack Hannaford (2-27), Luke Constable (1-4) and Toby Whale (1-6) the pick of the bowlers, said Tamworth coach Chris Paterson.
“Anshul Baruah batted well for them, very correct and hung around for about 40 of the 50 overs,” he said.
“We had a good win though.”
Jye Paterson (85no) and AJ Pretorius (25) figured in a big stand.
West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook joined the winners’ list at Lambert Park where it replied to Armidale’s 131 with 4-134.
Gian Gill (2-22) led the attack while Ryan Gunn also claimed 2-2.
“We bowled them out in 39 overs,” said WPHC manager Julian Bish.
The boys bowled pretty tight.”
Nick Farrar (44) and Wally Davidson (26) top scored for Armidale.
Then Matthew Carpenter (39) and Ryan Gunn (23) batted well early before Rhys Flynn (21no) and Asees Rajput (13no) put on an unbroken 42 for the fifth wicket to steer the side to victory.
Sam Weston (2), Tom Lashlie and Liam Neeson were the Armidale wicket-takers.
