The club has organised a friendly against Sydney club Quakers Hill Tigers and is coinciding the trip with an Asian Cup game.
They’ll be in the stands at Stadium Australia for the opening Group B game on January 10 between Uzbekistan and Korea DPR (North Korea).
It’s the first time the club has done something like this, president Noel Corney said.
The timing couldn’t be better with the Asian Cup on, which will be a great experience for the kids.
“Most of these kids haven’t been in a stadium like that,” he said.
“It’ll be an eye-opener for them.”
He said they’ve got about 18 going down.
“We’re taking a combined side of our U13 and U14 teams and a few younger siblings,” he said.
They’ll be playing an U14s mixed side from the Tigers.
“How that came about is one of the coaches, who’s our treasurer, has got family down there that play with the club,” Corney said.
The game will be played on the Sunday at Valentine Park.
“That’s the training facilities for the Western Sydney Wanderers,” he said.
While they’re down there they’ll also try out bubble soccer.
The newest footballing craze, it’s basically soccer played in protective inflatable balls.
Corney said the kids were “extremely excited”.
“A couple of the kids have had their bags packed for a couple of months,” he said.
The club has enjoyed a big spike in player numbers in recent years.
“In the last four years we’ve gone from 12 teams to 28,” Corney said.
They are now one of – if not the – biggest clubs in the Tamworth competition and won the Northern Inland club of the year.
