The Fighting Arts fighter claimed the NSW superfeatherweight kickboxing title at Blayney on the weekend.
Fellow gym member Ricky Richens and Eric Biddulph also stepped into the ring, with Biddulph also returning with a state belt.
He lives in Muswellbwook but travels up to Tamworth to train with Ben Burrage and won the junior welterweight title.
“It went the five-round distance and he won on points,” Burrage said.
It was his first state kickboxing title. He’s won state boxing titles before.
Barnett was also making the jump from boxing and only stepped in as a late replacement.
“It was Sam’s first kick fight,” Burrage said.
“The other girl had had six.
“Sam beat her on unanimous points.”
Richens wasn’t fighting for a title but brought home a trophy.
“He’s had a couple of boxing fights,” Burrage said.
“He’s showed real promise with that.
“He just thought he’d have a kick fight.”
He won on points after dropping his opponent in the second round.
He and Barnett will now put the gloves back on for a fight night at Dubbo on December 19.
