Not temperature-wise so much for the Saturday, December 6 mountain bike epic, but for the competition.
Daniel Raffaele is the Keepit Real 100 organiser and obviously biased about the second edition of the marathon mountain bike race at Lake Keepit.
He’s also confident the race will entice around 250 riders from all over the state and country.
“I’m so thrilled with this year’s race,” Raffaele said.
“The competition is hot.
“ There are some awesome riders coming from all over NSW and southern Queensland.
“Numbers are up, and riders are registering daily leading up to the closing date (Thursday, December 4).
“This year’s entrants will come from as far away as Wollongong, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Sydney, Central Coast, Grafton and Dubbo,” he said.
“Competition fired up recently with the announcement of a 50km Dash for Cash as well. Winner takes all – $250 for the fastest female and $250 for the fastest male.”
Raffaele is also thrilled with the quality of the field so far.
“It includes World 24hr riders Jason English, Peter Selkrig, Sean Bekkers and Jamie Vogele, and National Cross Country riders Emily Parks, Holly Harris and Sara Mills,” he said.
“Also included are local riders Mitch Carrington, Fraser Ashford, Dave Rugedyke and last year’s winner Sam Spokes who just returned home from the world stage in road riding.
“Changes to this year’s track will impress all the riders. 10km of fire-trail has been replaced with some sweet single-track.
“This winds its way through the beautiful pine forest overlooking Lake Keepit.”
Keepit Real 100 caters for the whole family, too, Raffaele said.
“We have 50km, 30km, 20km and 10km options,” he said.
“There are heaps of giveaways including a Fat Bike, T-shirts and jerseys from Switch Back Events, Bicycle Central, Endura and Mountain Bikes Direct, Hogs Breath, EyeCare Plus and Dust Devils MTB Skills .”
The race starts at 7am on the Saturday morning (December 6) and you can register online at switchbackevents.com.au.
