Last year Quirindi and Gunnedah joined Peel, Tamworth, Oxley and Farrer in the competition, with Carinya and Barraba the new additions this year – both schools sending several sides.
With Farrer sitting this one out there was still a record 33 teams and over 350 players sweating it out as Oxley took out two of the four divisions.
Taylor Holcombe led the Tamworth High girls to the senior girls’ title, as well as taking out the MVP Award.
Many of the THS girls were part of the league tag side that lost to Peel by two points the day before, and took their revenge on Wednesday, winning the lot.
Holcombe recently turned down an opportunity to be a shadow reserve for the Australian side to chase a spot in the indigenous squad.
The Junior Peel boys did the double, winning both the White Ribbon league clash against Tamworth High on Tuesday and going on to take out the oztag title as well.
They beat Carinya in a very tight decider 3-2.
Tom George took the MVP for the junior division.
The Oxley senior boys cruised through the competition including a 5-nil win in the final over a year nine Oxley side. The exciting and elusive Ethan Parry taking out the MVP award.
They were almost matched by their junior female counterparts.
Led by MVP Jaymee-Lee Averillo, the side impressed all day and finished with a decisive 4-nil victory over Gunnedah in the final.
Averillo was part of the NSW side last season.
Tamworth junior oztag development officer Katrina Davis said it was great to see more players attracted to the game.
Next year is a big year for Tamworth with both junior and senior state cup squads already in training.
The local junior season is playing semi finals next week before the junior Tamworth side goes to Coffs Harbour in February for the State Cup.
