The network succeeded in luring the star pair last week to its national drive-time slot, having battled a tough year of poor TV and patchy radio ratings.

Mr Dobson's comments came as Southern Cross' Sydney station 2Day FM continued its decline in the breakfast-time slot, with its audience share slumping 0.4 points to 2.9 per cent.

But Mr Dobson believed the network was on the cusp of turning itself around, with its current drive presenters Dan & Maz, moving to the breakfast slot to create a "genuine under-30s show".

2Day FM's total audience share stabilised at 3.6 per cent, having struggled after losing controversial hosts Kyle and Jackie O last year to rival ARN.

"We are not going to rely on Hamish and Andy," Mr Dobson said.

"Breakfast is the critical factor. We have Fox breakfast right, we have Triple M breakfast Melbourne right, we have Triple M breakfast Sydney right.

"Our strategy in Adelaide, you watch the next survey, that will go up. We have got Perth right. Brisbane is a tight battle, so we have got to work there, but essentially we believe that we have got all our ducks lined up and we are going to have a good year next year."

Melbourne's Triple M continued to decline in overall ratings, dropping 0.4 points to 6.7 per cent. But its breakfast team – Eddie McGuire, Luke Darcy and Mick Molloy – retained its top position in the FM market, despite easing 0.8 points to 7.7 per cent.

"Obviously with AFL being a massive part of the DNA that runs through Triple M … post football season if you go down a little bit that's a good survey," Mr Dobson  said.

"It's statistical downward pressure there. It's nothing to be alarmed about. We have done that every football season. We are very happy where Eddie sits."

Fairfax Media's talkback station 3AW won overall breakfast ratings in Melbourne, with Ross and John continuing to dominate, despite their audience share falling 1.6 points to 16.7 per cent. ABC 774's Red Symons, was next in breakfast, with the station's audience share rising 2 points to 15.4 per cent.

The gap in overall ratings closed between 3AW and ABC 774, with the Fairfax station maintaining its top spot, despite easing 1.4 points to 12.4 per cent. 774 rose 0.7 points to 11.4 per cent.

In Sydney, Macquarie Radio's 2GB retained the crown as the most popular radio station, despite dropping 0.6 points to 13.5 per cent. Alan Jones chalked up his 100^th No.1 radio ratings survey, although his breakfast show shed 1.9 points to 14.1 per cent.

Kyle and Jackie O, who are now on KIIS 1065, were next in the breakfast ratings, firming 0.7 points to 10.5 per cent.
