Children came in droves with their parents and playgroups to sample all Tamworth children’s services have to offer.
Tamworth Family Daycare hosted craft with drawing and painting, library staff read stories, and nurses from Hunter New England Health were there to share healthy eating tips with children and talk about the importance of water.
There was also face painting, a fruit tent, a sausage sizzle and games with rainbow parachutes and hula hoops to entertain the children.
Tamworth Family Services playgroup co-ordinator Kim Smart said it was the first time the fun day had been held in Children’s Week, which celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood and values their talents and skills.
“The children are very excited,” Mrs Smart said.
She said the day was a “joint effort” where many local family organisations worked together, including Horizon Early Intervention, Tamworth Women’s Refuge, Medicare Local and TAFE.
“People come along and meet the service providers, so it’s about people who are raising a child knowing what’s available to them.”
