The community should be congratulated for recognising the many benefits brought by solar and renewables, including lower power bills, good local jobs and opportunities for regional development and innovation.
In the next few weeks the federal government will finally reveal its position on the Renewable Energy Target, which helps with the cost of installing solar.
I hope that after its concerted anti-solar campaign, the government sees sense and follows the example set by Walcha.
Australians want more solar not less – Australia now has an impressive 1.3 million homes with rooftop solar power installed.
With good policies like the Renewable Energy Target, it will be easier for people in towns like Walcha to generate their own power from the sun and take control of their energy bills.
Solar Citizens wishes all towns the best of luck in the race to 100 per cent renewable energy.
We congratulate the leadership shown by local communities - like yours - and we call on all our politicians to recognise the opportunities for solar energy.
