Sydney Olympian Ron Easey, from Quipolly, started the showjumping action with success at AELEC on Friday with victory in the Manuka Chaff Gold Tour from some elite riders.
Easey won on Made U Look, coming back to the competition arena after a serious arm injury, edging out Jess Brown, daughter of Olympian Rod Brown, riding Equus Echo.
In third place was another young rider making her mark in the senior ranks, Sarah McMillan aboard Belcam Armada.
Super Junior Jake Hunter, just back from representing Australia at the Youth Olympics, placed fourth on Midnight Rock and Rod McQueen was fifth on ASB Vienna.
Saturday night at the Tamworth Indoor Champions Tour was spectacular for final of the Manuka Chaff Gold Class.
Amanda Madigan (Glossodia) won a thriller with Diamond B Vigo from Kulnura’s Jess Brown and her two rides.
Another young female rider with impressive riding ability, Brooke Campbell, riding Copabella Cadiz, was fourth and Tamworth’s rising star, James Hetherington, fifth with Jaybee Caribus.
Coinciding with the showjumping event, the top carriage drivers showcased their skills in a horse driving event.
Horse driving is a unique event and the competition included a combined marathon which incorporated three phases – dressage, cones and cross-country.
Scone’s Amanda See had a successful weekend. She placed first and second in the FEI 1* single pony and 1* dressage and cones, in both ahead of Rachel Bryce.
Bryce did though win the Class 2 unofficial pairs,
Tracie-Lee Borg dominated the FEI 1* pairs events, winning both the pony, and dressage and cones.
Kurt Dillman won the FEI single horse combined marathon from Jack Murphy and David Rozynski, and was third behind Will Wicks and Gail Bains in the dressage and cones.
Helena South was first in the single horse national competition (unofficial) for locals, Robin Douglas the single pony and Bob Edwards the horse teams.
At Moonbi the Tamworth Team Penning hosted the Team Penning State Championships over two big days with 200 teams from all over Australia competing.
The open title was taken out by president Brian Penrose, Amy O’Neill and Snow Deaves with a run of 31.25secs.
The team of sisters Paige and Lily Ryan, and Ruby Armstrong won the junior title while Lacey Miller, Montana Cooper and Rhianon Jones recorded the quickest time in the youth event.
