The event, the brainchild of local mum Lucy Haslam, will be opened by NSW Premier Mike Baird and bring together some of the pre-eminent names in the global cannabis medicine debate.
The Inaugural Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium will be held on November 21 and 22 at TRECC.
Mrs Haslam said as debate raged in parliaments and loungerooms across Australia about the merits of medical marijuana, it was critical people took the opportunity to attend the conference and hear from the experts.
“This campaign has been driven by the community and we want to give the community an opportunity to hear from the experts and have unresolved issues in their mind cleared up,” Mrs Haslam said.
Tickets to the symposium are expected to go on sale next week.
The event will be hosted by Sunday Night journalist and medical marijuana supporter Helen Kapalos.
New England MP Barnaby Joyce, Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson, Tamworth mayor and deputy mayor Col Murray and Russell Webb, Anita Tang from the NSW Cancer Council, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall and general secretary of the Nurses and Midwives’ Association Brett Holmes have all confirmed their attendance.
