The fallout from the release of Pietersen's autobiography, on shelves in Australia next week, is continuing in England with the attention on Thursday turning to a parody Twitter account mocking the batsman and run by a friend of fast bowler Stuart Broad.

The book chronicles the bitter breakdown of relations between Pietersen and others including former England coach Andy Flower and wicketkeeper Matt Prior, culminating in their farcical tour of Australia last summer when they were thrashed 5-0 in the Ashes.

The token villain in England six months earlier when he had taken a swing at batsman Joe Root in a Birmingham nightclub, Warner's standing with Alastair Cook's team did not improve by the time of the return series.

Warner's labelling of batsman Jonathan Trott as "weak" and "poor" after a dismissal to a frightening Mitchell Johnson at the Gabba last November only added more tension - a burnt-out Trott would quit the tour after the first Test - and the left-hander featured in another fiery exchange while plundering a century at the WACA Ground a fortnight later.

His combatants on that occasion were Ian Bell and Prior, who Pietersen claims led a culture of bullying in the England set-up. But if they took issue with Warner then Pietersen holds a different view.

"In the third Test of the 2013-14 series, David Warner went really hard at Matt Prior," Pietersen writes. "I had been a teammate of Warner's at Delhi Daredevils, and got to know him really well - I got on absolutely fine with him. People in the England dressing room hate him, but I realised [with a bit of a guilty conscience] that I quite liked the bloke.

"So when it got hot and heavy between him and Prior I stepped in. Warner felt that Matt Prior was personally abusing him, saying things that were over the line. I said, 'yeah, but Dave, you shouldn't have said the shit you said about Trotty earlier. So, guys just calm down'."

Pietersen also provides an insight into England's fractured psyche at the Gabba last summer when Johnson began a remarkable series in which he would claim 37 wickets and terrify more than a few opponents.

Warner noted what he called "scared eyes" among rivals facing Johnson in Brisbane and Pietersen confirms as much.

"You very seldom hear people in your own team saying that they are physically scared, but our tail-end batsmen were scared," Pietersen writes. "I heard Broad, [Jimmy] Anderson and [Graeme] Swann say they were scared. When you've got that, you know that a bloke in the other team is doing damage."

Pietersen said Johnson's short-pitched bowling to a shaken Trott, a tactic that would haunt England all summer, left an indelible impression on the visitors.

He writes of Johnson's opening delivery to Trott in Brisbane, a throat ball in the midst of a deadly spell:  "Boom: first ball from Johnson hits Trotty on the glove as he jumps back and tries to shield his face. It was a violent bumper that jumped at him like a startled rat. Everybody watching says, 'whoa, shit. WTF?'

"A shudder ran through the dressing room.

"I was sitting there, thinking I could die here in the f---ing Gabbattoir. How could Trotty, this calm, collected buddy of mine, play like that? Get hit like that? Get out like like?

"I was really worried. I'd been spending a huge amount of time on my own in the nets, but suddenly it didn't seem enough.

"I had been petrified: if Trotty can get played like that there is no hope for me, because Trotty is normally so calm and cool."

If Johnson caused untold damage, however, Pietersen's revelations suggest plenty of England's pain was also self-inflicted.

The recriminations are continuing, the latest from former England captain Alec Stewart who confirmed claims by Pietersen that the owner of the  "KPgenius" Twitter account, Richard Bailey, had told him at The Oval in 2012 that three players had access to the account mocking the star batsman. Stewart said the players were Broad, Swann and Tim Bresnan.
