IT was a great day out for the Wilson family at Kootingal on Saturday with brothers Todd and Matt arguably best on field as Dungowan beat Kootingal 28-10 in the Group 4 Second Division Shield final, while Sarah claimed a league tag trophy as Dungowan did the double.

Captain and halfback Matt Wilson ran the show and took out Player of the Final award. The pivot busting the line on a couple of occasions to set up tries and put Kooty on the back foot, and keeping the momentum going the right way for most of the 80 minutes.
Older brother Todd Wilson was given the nod from coach Luke Taylor as best forward on ground after a committed defensive effort.
The lock didn’t miss anyone in the middle and would have led the tackle count on Saturday.
“It is just part of my game,” Todd said.
“I don’t like to miss many.”
Todd’s wife Sarah got the family rolling with a win for the Cowgirls in the league tag before the brothers ran amok.
The Wilsons, just one of seven sets of brothers that are on the club’s books this season.
Matt probably saved his best kicking game for last as well, with some well-placed kicks earning a few repeats and turning Kooty around.
He finished the game with his best line break to set up the final try.
“It is always great to be able to finish a game like that,” Matt said.
“I knew if we stuck with them early we would be right.”
The Cowboys did, only going into the sheds down by four at halftime but with plenty left in the legs.
“Team efforts win grand finals,” Matt said.
“We were sharp and positive at training last week.”
Todd felt the same, but with a twist.
“Defence and forwards win games,” Todd said.
“Then we let the pretty boys like Matt take over.”
Matt talked Todd out of retirement this season with the lure of winning a premiership together too much for the 29 year old.
“We played in the backyard our whole lives,” Matt said.
“And now we have won a premiership together.”
“And I want it to be noted that I have always been quicker than Matt,” Todd added.
The boys are off with a lot of the team to the Gold Coast this week for an end of season trip, if they have left the Dungowan Pub yet.
