About 6pm on Monday, emergency services rushed to Eastern Ave at Kentucky after reports a man had fallen into a fire.
The man was pronounced dead shortly afterwards by ambulance paramedics and police.
The area was cordoned off by police, who have launched an investigation into the death but say there is nothing to suggest it is suspicious.
“An 81-year-old Kentucky male is deceased after what appears to be a tragic accident, where the deceased has fallen into a large fire pit whilst burning off vegetation and rubbish,” New England acting crime manager Detective Inspector Roger Best said.
“At this stage there has been nothing uncovered to suggest this is anything other than a tragic accident.
“However, forensic examination and witness statements will continue and the matter will be put before the coroner, where a determination will be made for the cause of the death.”
