“We’re putting the major semi-final out of our mind,” Brumbies co-coach Duncan Pinfold said.
They can’t afford to get caught up in the win.
Today is going to be a “different kettle of fish”.
The Rams showed that in the manner they beat Tamworth on Sunday.
Pinfold didn’t see the game but, from what he heard back from those that did, the loss to them woke the Rams up.
They are chasing the first silverware since 2005 when they took out the Newcastle premier division and won’t be able to rest on what they did two weeks ago.
“We’ll need to lift the bar again,” Pinfold said.
“Walcha has lifted the bar a hell of a lot in the space of a week-and-a-half.”
That said, they won’t be deviating too much from what they did two weeks ago.
“We need to change a couple of things up so we’re not so predictable for them,” Pinfold said.
But the basic plan will be the same, and he pinpointed their mental attitude was what it hinges on for them.
“At this time of year you’ve got the fitness, you’ve got the set piece,” he said.
“Everything is in place. It all comes back to mental attitude.”
It crosses over into – and affects –everything.
Discipline will be big key.
It was good against the Rams last time, but has been an issue at times.
“It will have to be at least just as good,” Pinfold said.
“Everyone’s got to be on the same page.”
He also spoke about aggression and pressure.
They were able to force the Rams into a lot of errors through their pressure.
They were that day without star number eight Murray Wilkinson but he comes back in today after recovering from the jaw injury he suffered against Barraba.
He’ll add a lot to them.
“He’s our biggest go-forward man for momentum,” Pinfold said.
“He’s the one that generally bends the line.”
His return also pushes captain Martin Feehan to the side.
“I think that’ll strengthen up our scrum,” Pinfold said.
It is such a valuable source of possession but was a bit “hot and cold” two weeks ago.
And while it wasn’t the premiership they were after, Pinfold said everyone was excited about the chance of winning some silverware.
It could be a big day for the club, with second grade also chasing the premiership spoils.
They meet Gunnedah in the first game of the day.
“Two grades in is fantastic for the club,” Pinfold said.
