Hooper won the Waratahs players' player award, the Matthew Burke Cup, for the second year running after a stellar performance in the club's Super Rugby title-winning season.

He beat teammates Wycliff Palu, Tatafu Polota-Nau and Adam Ashley-Cooper to the gong, which was announced at the end-of-year dinner in Pyrmont on Tuesday.

The award caps a standout season for Hooper, who in the past 12 months has won Australian rugby's top award, the John Eales Medal, his first Matthew Burke Cup, a Super Rugby championship and captaincy honours at NSW and the Wallabies.

At just 22, the 32-Test breakaway is only the second player to win back-to-back honours, following in the footsteps of Palu, who won in 2008 and 2009.

Palu, who played his 100th game for NSW during the season, was crowned best forward after a return to vintage form this year, while Ashley-Cooper was named best back.

Playmakers Bernard Foley and Kurtley Beale ranked fifth and sixth in the season-long tally, with Jacques Potgieter, Kane Douglas, Nick Phipps and injured captain Dave Dennis rounding out the top 10.

Dennis' season ended prematurely with a knee injury in the Waratahs' regular round home clash with the Brumbies last month, ruling him out of the side's finals campaign.

His contribution off the field for the remaining weeks of the season did not go unnoticed. Dennis collected the prestigious Waratah Medal, which is given by coach Michael Cheika, chief executive Jason Allen and chairman Roger Davis to the player who best represents the values of the province.

Foley was also honoured, taking out the members' choice player of the year award with a quarter of the 606 votes cast in the members' poll.

He pipped Hooper by three votes, while Ashley-Cooper came in third, crowd favourite Potgieter fourth and Beale in fifth spot.

The members' choice award was the icing on the cake for Foley, who kicked the last-gasp penalty goal to give the Waratahs a one-point win over seven-time title winners the Crusaders in the Super Rugby final last month.

He also made his run-on debut for the Wallabies against France in June in the coveted No.10 jersey, before being controversially named on the bench behind Beale against the All Blacks.

In a bittersweet twist, the now-departed rookie Alofa Alofa won the Chris Whitaker Aspiring Waratah Award – won last year by Will Skelton. Alofa made his debut in round two against the Western Force and was an early fixture on the wing before injuring his knee on the side's tour of South Africa.

The league convert left Australia to link up with French club La Rochelle at the end of the season and scored a try in his first game for the club last weekend.

The awards come at an opportune time for the Waratahs' Test players, who have until the end of the week to lick their wounds from Australia's 31-point loss to the All Blacks last weekend.

Hooper, Palu and Ashley-Cooper are expected to join Folau, Foley, Beale, Skelton, Phipps, Rob Horne, Peter Betham, Paddy Ryan and Sekope Kepu in the Wallabies squad for the next two-game leg of the Rugby Championship.

The Wallabies face South Africa in Perth on September 6 and Argentina on the Gold Coast on September 13.
