He made it clear this week he loved being "at home" in Sydney and also "at home" with the Waratahs, having brought his career full circle to claim the title that got away from him as an 18-year-old Waratahs No.10 in 2008. He has refrained from making any more statements about his future, but it is understood both the Wallabies and Waratahs are confident they will retain him for at least one more year. "It’s a special feeling," he said at the Waratahs' fan event in Martin Place this week. "Obviously, I'll leave [the contracting matter] up to my manager. But I love the boys. I love being back here in NSW. I love being home."

Bromance flourishes

The Wallabies' friendship with the Australian cricket team is going from strength to strength, with the two teams planning an unofficial joint-team dinner in Sydney on Sunday. The burgeoning mass bromance has been spearheaded from two directions. Ewen McKenzie and Australian cricket coach Darren Lehmann swap ideas from time to time and met up again in Brisbane in June, when the teams held a joint photo opportunity before the Wallabies' opening Test against France.

Test No.12 Matt Toomua and fast bowler Mitchell Starc are also mates after being introduced by their girlfriends, Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy, who both play cricket for Australia. Sunday's supper was arranged when both teams realised they would overlap at the Intercontinental in Sydney on Sunday.

Waratahs roadshow

Fresh from their Super Rugby triumph, NSW coaches Michael Cheika and Nathan Grey are taking the Waratahs brand on the road with a coaching roadshow in Argentina. In an initiative that will do nothing to quell rumours Cheika is being courted by the Argentinian Rugby Union, the NSW head coach will be the guest star at two professional coaching seminars in the week Los Pumas host the All Blacks in La Plata. It has been organised by former Pumas prop Rodrigo Roncero, who is a friend of Cheika's, and is a regular initiative.

Last year, Chiefs coach Dave Rennie and his assistant, Wayne Smith, fresh from their own Super Rugby title win, were the guest stars. Cheika maintains close relations with his contacts in Argentina, taking a Waratahs touring side there after last year's season finished. The seminar was news to the Waratahs' head office, with both coaches away on holiday, but follows the announcement that Cheika will take a team to Ireland and England in August for two World Club sevens tournaments.

Wallaroos bounce back

Talk about a comeback. After disappointing losses to New Zealand and Canada in the Tri Nations in June, the Wallaroos have come out swinging at the women's world cup in Paris this past week. They beat Wales 25-3 and South Africa 26-3 without conceding a try in either clash. To make the semi-finals, they now face a tough clash with host nation France early on Sunday morning, Australian time. Loose forward Mollie Gray, who started against South Africa and came off the bench against Wales, said the unbeaten run was encouraging after learning some tough lessons in New Zealand. "Like everyone always says, Australia are underdogs because we don't get that regular exposure to international rugby like other countries," Gray said.

"The European teams had just come off a Six Nations and we had a brand new squad – 15 of us hadn't played at that level before so it was so overwhelming." It was Gray's international debut too. She conceded it was a steep learning curve but praised her teammates for doing the hard yards over the past two months. "Our results are obviously reflecting how hard we're working, no one's scored against us, which is a huge bonus," she said. "[France] is going to be a tough game. When you play the host country, they have that advantage with the crowd and we've both won two games and no one's scored against us. It's going to be like playing ourselves." Go well, Wallaroos.
