The New England Nomads juggernaut just rolls on.
The Zac Economou-coached side thumped Narrabri Eagles by more than 100 points on the Eagles’ Leitch Oval Saturday.
Weston Whitby booted 10 goals and Dave Richards six in the 27.15 177 to 9.10 64 win.
It was the 11th straight win for the unbeaten Nomads in a season where they have a massive percentage (266.67%).
The Tamworth Kangaroos maintained third on the TAFL ladder when they beat Gunnedah Bulldogs 13.14 96 to 6.10 46 in the first game of the Tamworth double header at No 1 Oval on Saturday.
Rhett Graham’s three goal haul was a highlight.
Alex Hudson, Luke Robinson and Matt Hodge all booted two goals apiece while Ryan Painter and Matt Hughes were also standouts.
“That was a better result,” Roos coach Brett Douglas said in regards to the previous week’s flogging at the hands of the Nomads.
“Tough in the wet but it was good to bounce back like that,” Douglas said.
The Bulldogs had six individual goal kickers with Andrew George its best and captain-coach John Woolaston a standout in defence.
Inverell Saints then took on Tamworth Swans in the second game of the double header and produced one of their best performances of the season, winning 20.9 129 to the Swans 7.6 48.
“We kicked well today,” said Saints coach Nick Baird.
“Five straight in the last quarter was good. It’s unusual for us too. We haven’t been kicking that well this season. Something we focused on at training during the week and good to see them get it right.
“Especially in those wet conditions.” Kieran Te Velde’s seven goal haul was a highlight, Baird said.
“It was a bit of a breakout day for him,” he said.
“Good to get a bit of confidence.”
Russell O’Brien was close to the Saints best and with Hayden Chapple in the midfield had dominant performances.
Tamworth Swans best was young goal kicker Thomas Byrnes.
The 17-year-old Oxley High School student, son of former City United and Tamworth allrounder cricketing star David Byrnes, kicked three of the seven Swans goals in another confident display.
