The six are all Tamworth Under 15 representative players who will have a taste of the coaching side of the game on a weekend where the Michael York Cup (boys) will be played in Tamworth for the Under 11 aged hockey players.
Almost 40 boys and girls’ teams will play in Tamworth this weekend, many of whom will be here for this morning’s coaching clinic.
D’Ambros and Walker will coach the Tamworth Green side in the A Division of the Kim Small Shield, Willis and Maher are in control of the Division 2 Red Tamworth side and Doolan and Chaffey are leading the Division 2 Blue side.
15-year-old Doolan and Chaffey have been playing hockey since they were six.
They also played in the Kim Small Shield as Under 11s and are looking forward to their coaching stints.
They’ve had their Blue team for “four or five training sessions”.
“It’s very different,” they said of coaching to playing.
“We’ve tried to make things simple for them and stick to the basics.”
They said the Blue teams has trained hard and drills they were running at the start of their coaching stints were now being carried out a lot better.
“They are getting the hang of it,” they said.
This morning’s coaching clinics begin a big weekend for the juniors as well as their young coaches and referees.
