Last year I announced that the burnt out bridge would be replaced under Department of Transport Capital Works Funding.
This month it came to my attention that this funding has since been re-allocated by Transport for NSW.
Unbeknownst to myself, GrainCorp were planning a restructure, announced last week, which included closing its Warren site.
Upon this information and advice from GrainCorp, the department reallocated the capital works funding from the bridge to the section of the Warren rail line between Auscott and Namoi Cotton.
The bridge line will not be closed but will be maintained so that in the event that a party may want to take on the GrainCorp site in the future, the bridge can easily be up and running again.
As far as I know there was never an insurance payment outstanding – the funding to repair the bridge came out of Transport for NSW’s Capital Works Program, not insurance, as claimed by some, as pieces of state owned infrastructure are not individually insured.
