A team of 42 Calrossy Anglican School students took part in the annual North West Equestrian Expo. 

The entire Calrossy team achieved some fantastic results, with the achievements of the four top riders – Sophie Hamilton-Smith, Skye Sylvester, Annabelle Turnbull and Serena Osbourne – securing Calrossy’s placement as the most successful school after last year’s triumph. 

Sophie Hamilton-Smith was the star of the meet, again being the most successful rider with the highest individual point score, also for the second consecutive year. 

Another Calrossy rider, Skye Sylvester, was runner-up in the highest individual point score with only a point separating Skye and Sophie. 

The working horse challenge is always a hotly-contested event, and with the prize of a new saddle up for grabs, why wouldn’t it be? 

Katie de Jong achieved success in this event knocking out the competition with her riding ability and scoring the most points. 

It wasn’t all down to the girls though, with the Calrossy boys also contributing to the swag of ribbons and medals brought home, particularly through their efforts in both A grade and B grade polocross divisions. Angus Capel won the Warrumbungle Way competition, receiving the prize of a swag for his efforts. His brother, Jock Capel, also contributed with a win in hack events. 

The Turnbull girls from Warren, NSW – Katelyn, Emily and Annabelle – achieved fifth place in the team barrel race, with another Calrossy team also in the top 10 schools. 

The six bar jump-off also saw two Calrossy teams placed in the top 10.

“This has been a remarkable year for our students,” teacher Kathy de Jong said. 

“When you factor in that there were 112 schools and 660 riders, Calrossy’s triumphs are outstanding.

“We have been working hard and these efforts have obviously paid off. To be so successful two years in a row is incredible.”
