Essential Energy regional manager Ben Williams said the staged project involved crews working along Gallen Ave and Ashford and Breen streets, as well as sections of Elizabeth and Rodney streets.
“Crews have almost totally rebuilt the electricity network along these streets to provide a more secure and sustainable power supply for local residents,” Mr Williams said.
“The upgrade involved the removal of a two-pole substation, installation of two new transformers and the replacement of 19 power poles and 55 service lines, which link households to the power network.
“More than 1.2 kilometres of ageing powerline has also been replaced with a mixture of higher-capacity aluminium cable and aerial bundled cable, both of which are more robust and resistant to weathering.”
Due to the size of the project, several planned power interruptions and road closures took place. Further network upgrades are scheduled for Gunnedah in the coming months.
