Judge Colin Charteris was scathing of Emilio Lozano, 43, who entered the Boggabri Pharmacy on September 10 last year armed with a knife.
Lozano threatened the chemist staff who complied with his demands before he fled with a quantity of prescription medication.
But the planned robbery unravelled after police viewed CCTV and tracked down Lozano in Narrabri in the days following.
Detectives swooped on Lozano who was hiding out in a Killarney St home where he surrendered to police.
He was charged with one count of robbery armed with an offensive weapon. He
pleaded guilty late last year in court after a brief of evidence against him was served.
In a sentencing hearing in Moree District Court this week, Lozano was jailed for five years for the offence.
He will serve at least three years and three months behind bars before he’s eligible for parole.
