I have recently been made aware of a situation of a family in our community who I believe have a genuine need for help.
Annalese Porter is a brilliant young lady who is visually and hearing impaired, the latter being the side effect of a previous operation.
This young lady will not give in.
Despite having Asperger’s syndrome, epilepsy and a second brain tumour, she will not give in.
Annalese continually see specialists in Sydney and Newcastle.
The cost of these trips is constantly rising, much of which is not subsidised.
She recently spilt water on her laptop and has to find a way to replace it.
Annalese eventually has to have a brace manufactured to help control her epilepsy.
Because of these conditions and others that are coming to the fore, her mother is in constant attendance – and debt.
The other side of the story is that her mother has placed herself in a very serious financial situation as Annalese slips through the cracks and does not receive many of the benefits available to others.
I am appealing to anyone who may be able to help remedy the situation to step forward.
We have two very good political representatives in our local area. I would hope that one of these men would step up and investigate the situation and help where possible.
