The course will have seen more than 450 players over the four days of golfing action.
Club pro Scott Roworth said the Easter Open Varden was the best field he had seen at the club for a long time.
“Of the 45 entries in the Varden about a dozen are off plus handicaps,” Roworth said.
“That gives you an idea about how good the field is.”
Following a play-off win in the Longyard Club Championship last weekend John Trevaskis is one of the local hopes.
Ben Lockwood and Nathan Mann were the other players that drew with Trevaskis last week and they are also a big chance in the Varden.
“There is a lot of history to this comp,” Roworth said.
“It used to be one of the only Easter Varden events out of Sydney and still draws the quality players.”
Tamworth Golf Club captain Ken Mundy is ready for a big weekend of golf.
He said the Carey’s Freight Lines Easter Open will be a hotly contested affair over the two rounds today and tomorrow.
“A couple of players are on +4, this is always a great event and plenty of players will be in with a chance including Ben Lockwood and Nathan Mann, so good luck to all of the locals.”
Carey’s Freight Lines are sponsoring all the weekend golf events and have done so for a number of years.
There is also a hole-in-one bonus that could make one lucky golfers’ weekend.
Ken Mundy said the club’s Hole-in-One Jackpot has hit $6,146.
He also said the course is also showing the good effects of the recent rain “and should be in great shape over the coming weeks”.
“Our great volunteers have continued to assist on the course and this is allowing our grounds staff to concentrate on the course itself our Club Championships are not too far away, commencing on May 18. The scores in recent weeks demonstrate how much harder the course plays when the fairways are in top shape, four events in a row the daily scratch rating has been 72, 71, 70, 72, so that tells the story.
The Ladies dominated the course on Thursday with Lyn Hibbard winning the Medley with 34 points.
