The daughter of Tamworth-based stallion Ready As was having her first run for Greg Bennett and owner Errol Leicht yesterday.
Her dad won his first start at Tamworth too, albeit after winning at Scone five days previously.
Bennett believes the bay filly has a big future.
As a two-year-old, Ready As had some famous seconds, running second in the Inglis 2YO Challenge and the Group 1 TJ Smith in Brisbane.
He also ran second in two Tamworth Cups later in his racing career.
Leicht is delighted with the way she has progressed since he sent her mum, Time Release, to Erin Park Stud and a service from Ready As.
“She did it nicely today,” Leicht said of debuting In A Wink.
“The one alley helped but she put the writing on the wall with that recent win against open company horses in a trial here.
“Kassie (Furness) rode her well and young Tina (Eveleigh) has done a great job as the strapper.
“Greg has done a wonderful job too.
“It looks she might go out for a little while now.”
“She’s gone,” Bennett said.
“She’s gone out to Errol’s for four or five weeks.
“She was marginal shin sore today but very impressive.
“She ran a good time (58.4secs) and the barrier did help.
“Kassie rode her patiently and her gate speed was better than it was in the trial here.
“I was talking to Steve Miller (Erin Park Stud) after the race and he said she is the dead ringer of her father.
“But it’s been a nice result all round.
“She’s a local horse, the second foal to race of Ready As and the first winner.
“Errol (40 Winks) is a local businessman and Ready As stands here at Erin Park as well.”
Leicht said Time Release was an under-rated racehorse.
“She won five for us,” he said.
“I raced her with Hayesie (former Tamworth golf pro Terry Hayes) and Corlo (Merv Corliss) trained her.”
In A Wink bears a strong resemblance to her father too, Miller said.
“She was very professional, just like him,” Miller said.
“She’s the spitting image of him.
“He’s going well too but that’s just the kick and start he needs.”
Miller also stands Youthful Legs at Erin Park and believes Ready As can be just as successful a sire as Youthful Legs.
Bennett is also hoping for more success at Muswellbrook on Monday when he starts talented mare Traffic in the $20,000 Singleton Cup (1280m).
“She’s second up and been working well,” he said.
“It should be a nice little race for her.
“She ran a fair race first-up in the wet at Scone.
“That was over 1100m which was a bit short for her.
“The 1280m will help,” he said.
It was a good day for Bennett as he finished with a treble after Solitaire Princess and Belannoro both won while Oh My Papa finished a close second to Knot Out in the Carlton Mid Tamworth Cup Prelude.
