This Saturday, Baker’s Delight in City Plaza will donate $1 from every six-pack of buns to John Hunter Children’s Hospital as part of its “Bundraiser Day”.
The funds, to be raised in stores from Newcastle to Grafton, will go towards the purchase of a Biliblanket – a device used to treat jaundiced babies – for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Baker’s Delight Tamworth franchisee Leanne Maslen has an extra special reason to participate in the event – both her sons were treated at John Hunter Hospital when they were younger.
“It really is an important hospital personally and for all of Tamworth; it’s our feeder hospital when there are major problems,” Mrs Maslen said.
“You know you’re getting the best treatment when you go there.”
Mrs Maslen expected the store to sell up to 4000 hot cross buns on Saturday, traditionally their second biggest Easter lead-up day outside Easter Thursday.
In honour of the cause, all staff will wear hospital scrubs to mark the day.
“We’re all just hoping it’s a cooler day – those scrubs can get pretty hot,” Mrs Maslen said.
