Armidale hosted the final after its win against Narrabri the previous week put it on top of the table and earned it a home final.
Armidale won the toss and batted first but was soon in trouble as Inverell’s Claire Lennon nabbed opener Nick Farrar in just the fourth over.
Jaiden Tasker effectively asphyxiated Armidale’s batting line-up in his three spells with the ball, conceding only 17 runs from his 10 overs, and also taking two late wickets.
Matt Campion and Alex White also took two wickets each as the home side struggled to establish any significant batting partnerships.
Armidale’s woes were exacerbated, with batsmen chancing the arm of opposition fielders on a number of occasions.
Inverell could justifiably bemoan effecting only three run-outs in Armidale’s innings.
Regular wickets fell as Armidale scrambled to a final score of 109, with Henry Sindel (18), Brendan Knowles (16) and Kieran Dennis (10) the only batsmen to reach double figures.
In contrast with their batters, Armidale’s bowlers bowled tightly and effectively constricted Inverell’s scoring rate.
In the resulting battle of patience between batsmen and bowlers, Inverell prevailed to reach the target with the loss of only two wickets.
Armidale’s Kieran Dennis bowled economically to concede only four runs from his five overs, and took the wicket of Inverell opener Jake Cannon (8) along the way.
BJ Cameron then claimed the wicket of Harry Moses (13) but Inverell didn’t offer any further chances as Jaiden Tasker (42 not out) and Matt Campion (33 not out) knuckled down, batted patiently and professionally, and calmly got their side over the line.
Man of the match was awarded to Tasker with the umpires noting that that accolade was closely contested between him and Campion.
