Twenty-six year-old Joel Thompson yesterday fronted Tamworth Local Court charged with reckless wounding.
About 7.15pm on Thursday Mr Thompson approached a 46-year-old man who was drinking in a park at Yum Yum Tree, Woolomin.
The younger man allegedly grabbed the older man by the shirt and threw him to the ground.
It is alleged Thompson then punched and kicked the victim several times, before he managed to get away from the younger man.
Police were contacted and officers from Oxley Local Area Command attended the scene and arrested Thompson before escorting him to Tamworth Police Station.
The victim was taken to Tamworth hospital for treatment to a deep cut on the back of his head, and bruising and swelling to his face.
Thompson is due to reappear before Tamworth Local Court on April 7.
