Steve Willis, otherwise known as The Commando, is tipped to be one of the main attractions at the health club’s official opening on Saturday, March 29 – almost two months ahead of schedule.
Lucky ticket-holders will get the chance to get up close and personal with Mr Willis, who’s best known for being one of the three trainers on the Australian version of The Biggest Loser, when he hosts two boot camps on the day.
Years in the making, the multi-million-dollar complex, on the corner of Wirraway and Beaufort streets in Taminda, will house a 25m pool capable of holding swimming carnivals, and a 10mx9m pool for learners and rehabilitation programs.
Fitness studios, boxing and stretching zones, a creche and cafe also feature in the state-of-the-art centre.
The man behind the project, Dwone Jones, admitted he was slightly “overwhelmed and nervous” by the impending unveiling and commended his builder, Mark Single, for going above and beyond.
“We have done our very best. We just want to present it to the community and hope they receive it and are proud of it,” Mr Jones said.
“It’s going to be a hub for winter carnivals ... we can now have competitive swimming and water polo for the first time in a very long time and be able to compete on a national level.”
Tiling and panelling work, as well as laying the foundation of the 128-space car park, will take place in the coming weeks.
