SHOES are polished, books covered and bags packed, with the region’s students to start filing back through the school gates tomorrow for the new year ahead.
It’s a bigger day for some than others, too, as hundreds of Kinders start the next chapter in their lives, with anxious – and proud – parents in tow.
Among them will be five-year-old Faith Bennett, who was in Tamworth yesterday shopping with mum Ame for new sports shoes.
Faith will start at Quirindi’s St Joseph’s Primary tomorrow and can’t wait for the big day.
“She’s so excited,” Ame said.
“She’s slept in her school shoes for a week and has been trying on her uniform and wearing it around the house.”
Ame admits to mixed emotions, as her daughter takes her next big step and son Jack, 3, starts preschool as well.
“My baby’s growing up, but at the same time I’m so happy for her because she’s so excited and she’s very ready,” she said.
“She needs to start learning new things and I’m very proud of her.”
