With that in mind, a Tamworth entrepreneur has opened a Yankee-themed cafe in Peel St, selling everything from US candy bars to monstrous Texas hoagies.
Owner Victoria Crosby, who also runs Cafe Retro, said she was inspired to open American Pie after spending time as a child in the US.
“When I came back to Australia I really missed the food,” Ms Crosby said.
“I wanted something completely different to what had been in Tamworth before and it seemed a natural choice. I just love the food – there’s so much of it and it has such bold flavours.”
Included on the menu are chilli fries, pretzels, seven varieties of hot dog, imported candy and soft drink, even “sloppy” American-style pizza.
Mrs Crosby said the shop, which opened last Wednesday and was previously occupied by Ridgey Didge Pies, had already been swamped by customers.
“We were hoping to sell six bagels on our first day and instead we sold 36,” she said.
