IT’S been a hectic month for high school graduate Anna Maher and as the new year approaches the pace isn’t showing any sign of letting up.
Eighteen-year-old Anna has thrown her hat into the ring for the Queen of Country Music Quest, coming hot on the heels of finishing high school, receiving her HSC results and even appearing as an extra in the Angelina Jolie-directed film Unbroken.
Anna, sponsored by Pat’s Kitchen Renovation, completed her schooling at McCarthy Catholic College and after receiving early entry into the University of New England to study primary teaching, she’s decided to take a gap year to consider her options.
Anna said she’d always wanted to enter the quest, a goal encouraged by sister Emily, who entered the quest a few years ago.
She approached her father, the man behind Pat’s Kitchen Renovation, to sponsor her and hasn’t looked back.
Born and bred in Tamworth, she said the festival was important to the local economy and was a wonderful way of bringing the city together.
“(The quest) will be a great way of getting to know new people and to learn more about the festival – what goes on behind the scenes to ensure it all runs smoothly,” Anna said.
She enjoys music and drama – being part of the Unbroken filming at Werris Creek a real highlight – as well as spending time with family and friends. Travel is another aim.
For the moment though the queen quest is her next challenge and win or lose, she knows she’ll learn a lot.
“I’m in it for the experience, definitely, and I’m up for anything they hand to me.”
