Props to Angie as Ricky answers the call

The village’s resident collector, Ricky Glass, was approached by scouts for the movie, Unbroken, when they heard he had a sizeable Mobil fuel bowser and sign collection.

Mr Glass said the prop scout found out about his collection through Tamworth’s Time Warp store 

“On Wednesday I got a phone call from out of the blue about a scout for Angelina Jolie who was looking for petrol powers to use in the movie,” he said.

“Arabella from Universal Films came straight out and checked out what I had. She would’ve been here for an hour and a half taking photos and making phone calls about what I had here. She was very impressed. She couldn’t believe all this was in the middle of nowhere.”

If chosen, the props would be used in a scene that showed the outside of a petrol station, with the bowsers and signs from the 1920s and 1930s.

“Arabella will bring the person looking after the petrol station scene out here and then they’ll decide what they want to use,” Mr Glass said.

“I’ll take it all to the set and put it where they want it.”

He said the scene would be set in Werris Creek.

Mr Glass said the movie makers had the rights to use Texaco and Mobil signage and items in the movie, and Mobil was his main collectible and they want bowsers and three or four Mobil flying horse signs.

“They also took pics of horse-drawn implements 

I have out the front, too. They could be interested in using them,” he said.

“I would be pretty well over the moon about it if anything of mine was used. I’ve been interviewed on TV and radio over the years, but this would be the first time anything of mine had appeared in a movie. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Mr Glass started collecting in 1997 with a parking meter and a set of traffic lights.

He now has 45 bowsers and a passion for collecting.

His collection, displayed in his large shed museum, has attracted thousands of visitors over the years.
