The Tamworth school hosted Welsh school Gowerton Comprehensive School in friendly sporting games yesterday before attending a combined dance at the William Cowper campus last night.
While the boys had a 25-3 loss in the rugby, the girls made up for it in netball and hockey, smashing Gowerton 55-25 in netball and winning 5-nil in the hockey.
Calrossy’s Megan Lamph stood out for the local girls, while goalkeeper Jessica Williams was strong for Gowerton.
It’s all in good fun though, with the Tamworth students making plenty of new friends from the trip.
Calrossy head of sport Mark Gallienne said the school hosted at least one international school each year.
“It’s great for them to have a chance to play sport against another school from overseas,” Gallienne said.
“They make new friendships through hosting other schools and keep in touch with them through email and Facebook.”
Gowerton, from south Wales, near Swansea, last visited Tamworth in 2009.
Maths teacher AlunWalters said the the 47 students and five teachers had already visited a number of schools in Sydney, including Ascham School and Newington College.
“It’s a great learning experience for the students to learn about a different culture,” Walters said.
The Welsh students were billeted out to families for a few nights.
“This is the first time in Australia for all the children,” Walters said.
“It’s certainly a different way of life to Wales.
“I think there was a shock coming from Sydney but they’re getting used to the country.
“They get to see far, far more when they’re billeted out than in a hotel.”
